Dear Interested Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),

Thank you for inquiring about the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) and the process for being accepted into this organization. We appreciate any and all questions asked, in learning what criteria are used for candidacy and membership to the NEHS.

The following list is criteria we use to determine who is eligible for NEHS candidacy:

     1.) At the end of each school year, third through fifth grade student final academic grades are reviewed;

     2.) Students who are ranked within the top ten students of their grade level are singled out for further review;

     3.) Upon further review, each academic subject’s final grade must be 90% or higher, with the exception of an 85% or higher in Health;

     4.) If all these requirements are met, the next step is to check to make sure that individual students have not received any formal CCS write-ups for inappropriate behaviors, etc.;

    5.) Finally, potential NEHS candidates must have regular attendance;

     When all is done, students who have met all of the above criteria will be sent a congratulatory letter and candidacy application packet by August 1, prior to the next school year.

     Once the candidacy application is received, all information listed and teacher recommendations are reviewed by the NEHS Faculty Council committee. After which, a student is informed of whether they will be accepted or turned down for the next school year. If a candidate is not accepted, they may become eligible to apply in a future school year.

     If you have any further questions regarding the candidacy process, please feel free to contact me at 610-903-1300, ext. 7327, or at chirst@ccs.us. Thank you!

Regards,

Mrs. Corinne L. K. Hirst
